Before and After School Reminders

We ask that parents and students please walk through the atrium to the schoolyard to line up when the bell rings.  Please do not remain in the hallway in front of the office or any other part of the school.  Students should meet their teacher outside.

Students are to be sent to the pick up line in the front of the school ONLY if you are driving up to pick them up.  If you are parking and walking, students should line up with their class in the schoolyard where you can meet them.

Next week, the PARCC Assessment will be given to every student in grades 3-5. The PARCC Assessment is designed to measure a student’s progress toward mastering the New Mexico Learning Standards. Teachers use the results of this and other assessments to help tailor instruction to your child’s specific learning needs, and to help prepare students for college and careers later in life.

This year, PARCC will consist of 4 units of Math and 3 units of English/Language Arts assessments. No more than 1 testing unit will be given on any individual day. Testing will be conducted on April 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 and May 1st. We plan to complete most testing by the first week of May. Make up tests will be administered as needed, usually on Fridays.

Most students will take the test using Chromebooks. Students in Grades 3-5 are encouraged to bring their own wired (not wireless) headphones or earbuds to school on testing days, as some parts of the assessment include audio/video elements. Headphones are also available in the school. Students’ cell phones must remain powered-off during the entire testing session. When students have finished interacting with the test, they may read a school-appropriate book or magazine.

Parents can help their students by:

  • Encouraging students to stay positive and do their best on these assessments
  • Making sure students get a good night’s sleep before testing
  • Eating a good breakfast each morning
  • Ensuring that students arrive at school on time
  • Schedule all appointments outside of testing days

All public schools in New Mexico are required by state and federal laws to administer the PARCC assessment. Parents can learn more about PARCC at:

Thank you so much for your support,
